The Outstanding CT Woman Business Owner of the Year

Andrea Obston of Andrea Obston Marketing Communications, LLC. Andrea Obston and her business have proven their staying power in New England over the past 23 years. Andrea has devoted her energy to teaching other business owners how to market their product and services through the media. One of the various tasks that Andrea has been working on includes developing a “Strategic Marketing Audit Research Technique” (SMART). SMART produces a 360 degree view of the client organization’s position within the marketplace. With SMART, Andrea and her team develop a strategic public relations plan that includes pro-active and reactive public relations, as well as media/crisis management, media maximization and media training to ensure the client sees significant growth.

The Outstanding CT Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Judith Stanton of The Spa at Split Rock. Judith Stanton is the owner of The Spa at Split Rock offering a luxury day spa with three guest suites located in a restored 300 year old farm house in Wilton, Connecticut. In 2002, Judith was asked by Neil Gordon, MD to develop a day spa to compliment his plastic surgery center. As soon as she saw the unbelieveably tranquil farm and spectacular property, she was convinced this would be a huge success. This facility is the first of its kind in the United States and already has been recognized in W Magazine and The New York Times. Although her business is still very much in its early stages, The Spa at Split Rock has proven to be a warm, nurturing, and inviting environment where guests receive superior services by caring spa therapists.

The Outstanding NAWBO-CT Member Business Owner of the Year

Lesley Mills of Griswold Special Care. Lesley Mills, a graduate from Yale University, is the owner of Griswold Special Care with five offices serving all of CT but Fairfield from Meriden, New Haven, New London, Waterbury, and West Hartford. Founded over 21 years ago, Griswold Special Care provides assistance with daily living, homemaking, transportation, and companionship to the elderly and disabled. Griswold Special Care enables the elderly and disabled to retain their dignity, health, and independence through the comfort of their own homes. Lesley found her inspiration when her grandfather lost his will to live after being placed in a nursing home with no familiar surroundings to convalesce from a broken hip. Lesley feels this is, unfortunately, an all-too-common experience and is why she started Griswold Special Care--to help families achieve peace of mind and enhance the quality of life of the elderly.
